When I was pregnant with my first child, I always planned to homeschool. Coming from an education background paired with trust and control issues, it just made sense. Fast forward several years and both my kids ended up at DOE schools. It was working for us and we were happy for the most part.
Enter COVID, politics, conspiracy theories, hatred and absolute craziness. I knew this was probably the best time to make all my homeschooling dreams come true....lol.
I don't personally know many mamas who are experienced with homeschooling but I did know one! It was Christie who owns Nohea Beauty Bar. I decided to ask her for some help pointing me in the right direction and we ended up doing an instagram live to answer some questions and clear up some misconceptions.
The homeschooling "process" (if that's what you want to call it) in Hawaiʻi is pretty simple and flexible. You fill out a form and bam! you can start homeschooling. There are no required curriculums or tests. You have the freedom to choose what works best for your family and children's learning styles. Okay, cool. I can do this. I'm doing this. I am going to do this.
I made the decision! Phew. That was a big step.
